In December of 2023, New York City enacted a new “Workers’ Bill of Rights” law. In accordance with that law, on May 1, 2024, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection released a multilingual poster that all employers in New York City must distribute to all current employees and new hires beginning July 1, 2024. The poster must also be also conspicuously posted in the workplace and shared through online systems regularly used to communicate with employees. The poster contains a QR code that links to the DCWP’s website where information on city, state and federal workplace laws and relevant enforcement agencies can be found. The poster can be downloaded here.
A violation of these requirements can result in a $500 civil penalty. However, the law allows first time violators an opportunity to correct any violation before a penalty is imposed.
